The San Francisco-Marin Food Bank’s mission is to end hunger in San Francisco and Marin. We envision a community where everyone has access to nutritious food of their choosing and is uplifted by a network of support. Together with community partners, we work to address hunger head-on through neighborhood food pantries, CalFresh enrollment, home-delivered groceries, and policy and advocacy efforts.
More than 70% of what our participants choose from is fresh fruits and vegetables.
That food comes from:
By partnering with farmers we receive tractor-trailer loads of seasonal, California produce at minimal cost. It’s a win-win:reducing food waste and ensuring neighbors receive fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables.
Thanks to the generous support of donors, we purchase 9% of the food we distribute. We buy items like chicken, eggs, and grains in bulk to offer a well-rounded menu of items our participants want.
We work with local grocery stores to collect soon-to-expire food. It’s sorted at our warehouse and distributed the same day or very next day.
Food drives only make up less than 1% of our food. Most food donations come from manufactures, growers and packers, distributors, wholesalers, and others in the food industry.
Operating nearly 24/7 across three warehouses, our team is constantly receiving, sorting and distributing 1.3 million pounds of food each week.
Our fleet of 20 trucks delivers food to 240 food pantries across San Francisco and Marin every week
Volunteers pack and pick up bags of fresh groceries and deliver them directly to thousands of seniors, people with disabilities and other homebound individuals.
Participants attend weekly food pantries — most of which are run by partner organizations with the help of volunteers. They are able to choose what they want for their families from a selection of fresh food set up like a farmer’s market
